Greg Pryor is the Temperature Product Marketing Manager at Endress+Hauser USA. He recently sat down to answer some questions about ModuLine’s configuration options. Learn more about what he has to say about the new product line.
Q: What is the importance of temperature measurement?
A: Temperature measurement is an important part of many applications. Safety, quality and efficiency are priorities for many companies, and these criteria are significantly improved by using temperature measurement devices. Products with a wide range of configurations provide options to fit a specific application and to achieve the highest accuracy and fastest response times.
Q: What are some best practices when measuring temperature?
A: Ensuring accurate temperature measurement starts with proper sensor installation, paired with smart calibration strategies and enhanced by digital communication protocols that enable real-time diagnostics and remote monitoring. RTDs offer higher accuracy and stability, while thermocouples are better for use in high-temperature applications and faster response times. Ensuring correct immersion depth and using thermowells to protect from harsh process conditions are necessary in receiving the most accurate temperature measurements. Digital communication protocols like HART, PROFIBUS and FIELDBUS allow for better integration, diagnostics and remote configuration.
Q: What is the latest innovation in Endress+Hauser’s temperature portfolio?
A: Endress+Hauser recently launched the iTHERM ModuLine product portfolio. The latest addition consists of modular temperature assemblies designed for a wide variety of applications in several industries. These assemblies allow for increased flexibility and easier customization and configuration.
Q: Why is configuration important in selecting a temperature device?
A: Configuration allows a more precise fit-for-purpose measurement, which can be based on improved accuracy, vibration resistance or heightened response times. Device configurations assist with contact measurement with customized immersion lengths and barstock thermowells, and reliable direct contact measurement allows for precise delta measurements between small outlet and inlet pipes. Configured devices also perform well under a wide range of process conditions, allowing accurate measurement of multiple temperature points across a complex system.
Q: How does the new ModuLine series compare to the previous generation of temperature RTDs?
A: The previous iTHERM ModuLine series contained more than 50 product root code variants. The new and improved ModuLine is designed with modularity and simplicity in mind, consolidating those 50 variants into seven core models, making selection and configuration faster and more intuitive. We have also added new options in the configurator to allow for even greater customization without the need to have a special-order assembly.
Endress+Hauser’s new and improved iTHERM ModuLine product portfolio has what you need to ensure the highest accuracy and efficiency in your process.
